Danny Wayne Brawner was called home by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed peacefully at his home. Born in 1948, Dan was the only son of Hubert Brawner and Nancye Duvall Brawner.
Danny served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand. After the war, he continued to serve his beloved country in The Kentucky Air National Guard. He retired from General Electric after 35 years, and sold real estate for Paul Seminon.
Dan (aka - Mr. Okolona/Coach/Big Dan) had a strong love for sports. He was well known in the community, especially with Okolona Optimist Club and Southern High School. For the Optimist Club, he coached a variety of sports, served in multiple officer positions, ran yearly fundraisers, and oratorical scholarship competitions. He also served as an assistant football coach for Southern High School. His greatest pride came from the children he coached, and the lives he impacted through this journey. He was known for coaching multiple teams that none of “his own” children were on. His response was always the same, “They are all MY kids.” Because of this, his legacy lives on.
He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Emily Ann (Infant).
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen Anderson Brawner, Children: Tammy Stout (Stephen), Dannette Nicastro, Dennis Brawner (Natalie), and Bryan Brawner. Grandchildren: Merideth Ferguson (Tommy), Natalie Vance (Trevor), Ben Stout (Kaitlyn), Gabrielle, Meghan, and Rachel Nicastro, Haley Holloman (Eric), Weston Holloman, Bryson Brawner. Great Grandchildren: Dallas, Dylan, and Kate Ferguson.
Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218).
Visitation will be from 2 PM until 8 PM on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the funeral home.
