Clyde, the 11th child and 8th son of Alfred Ervin Mims and Mary Mae (Sanders), was born on August 31, 1933 in Clanton, Alabama. As a teenager, he left the Mims family farm and headed north to Louisville, Kentucky to find work. It was there that he met Carolyn who he would soon ask to marry him and spend the next 69 years together building a life and family. He retired from Carbide Industries, and he and Carolyn relocated to Ekron, KY around 2002 after many years of working, saving, and planning for their dream home.
Clyde never met a stranger, and if someone needed help fixing something, he didn't only give them advice on how to do it--he showed up at their house with his tools in hand ready to help. He was beloved by many in the community for his sense of humor and his willingness to always lend a hand. On the weekends, you could often find him building or fixing something, dancing at the senior center with Carolyn, or entertaining guests with his homemade wine.
Clyde attended Ekron Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by both parents, all ten of his siblings, and his daughter, Gail Suzanne Wood.
He leaves behind a loving wife, Carolyn Mims (Mueller); two sons, Clyde Mims, Jr. (Anna) of Louisville, Kentucky and David Mims (Deanna) of Alabaster, Alabama; daughter Carla Anderson of Palm Coast, Florida; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, and nephews.
The funeral will be at 12:30 pm Monday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, with burial following at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8 pm.
