Barbara Ann Eisenmenger, 68, of Louisville passed away on August 30, 2022. She was born September 25, 1953 and was preceded in death by her parents Carl (Boots) and Sue Eisenmenger, her brother Carl Raymond Eisenmenger and her “Best” dog Bunny. Barb is survived by her brother Ken Eisenmenger, sister-in-law Nancy, nieces Lauren and Sarah Eisenmenger and her faithful cat Pumpkin.
She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church (formally Bethel-St. Paul). Music played a big role in Barb’s life. She was an accomplished organ player and often played in weddings and services at church. She played guitar, dulcimer and was director of the church handbell choir.
Barb was a long-time resident of Louisville and graduate of Westport High School. She was a lifelong learner as evidenced by her many degrees including a BS from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Science in Audiology from Purdue University, an MBA from University of Louisville and a Doctorate in Audiology from University of Louisville.
Barb worked at the University of Louisville for more than 30 years. As an instructor and Director of Clinical Audiology, she taught and guided hundreds of students to their degrees. She was on a team that conducted the first cochlear implant at UofL and over the years changed the lives of countless people, helping them gain or improve their hearing. She loved the University of Louisville and was an avid Cards fan.
Most importantly, Barb was a dedicated family person. She lived and cared for her mother and best friend, Sue Eisenmenger until her death in 2021. Sue and Barb were best friends who lived, quilted, cooked and traveled together. She regularly visited her brother, sister-in-law and nieces wherever that took her: including Denver, New Orleans, Midland Texas, Mandeville Louisiana, Moscow Russia, San Francisco, Singapore, Houston, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. Barb and Sue also traveled regularly to hand bell conventions and to visit friends as far away as Hawaii.
Although stricken at a young age with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s, Barb lived a full life. A learner, musician, quilter, traveler, and most importantly, a devoted friend and family member, she will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will take place at Crossroads Christian Church, 4004 Shelbyville Road on Saturday, December 17. Visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
