Ann H. Saxton, 91 of Louisville, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Leura Horning, brother Joe Horning, sister Nora Pelda Horning, sister-in-law Carolyn Horning and brother-in-law George Casey.
Ann Horning Saxton was born in Glasgow, Kentucky and from the start was a trail blazer, having skipped from 2nd grade to 4th grade. She started playing bridge when she was 12. At a young age, she set her sights on bigger and better things. After high school graduation, she headed to Missouri to the all-girls Christian College. After 1 year of study, she declared herself bored and transferred to the University of Kentucky. Once at UK, her lifelong love affair for all things UK was cemented. Our nickname for mom – Mrs. UK.
After college Ann moved to Florida before returning to work at her alma matter, the University of Kentucky. A favorite memory was born when she was able to meet and talk to legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Ann was a proud member of Tri Delta sorority.
Her career consisted of working at Norton Health Care for 30 years and the Kentucky Center for Arts for 14 years.
When asked what she wanted her legacy to be, Ann replied:
A good person, a good friend and a good mother. We can attest to all, but add that not only was she a good mother, but a great mother.
Ann is survived by her son, Robert M. Saxton Jr. and his wife Monica, daughter Lee Ann Saxton and her partner Neil.
Grandchildren Kyle Saxton (Emily), Bret Saxton (Allison) and Troy Saxton. Great grandchildren, Leo Saxton and Cecilia Saxton; sister Jerry Casey; nieces and nephews – Ron Horning (Anna), Carol Jo Horning, Bob Horning, Rick Casey (Vickie), David Casey and great nephews Nick Horning and Simon Horning.
Ann had many friends throughout her life including Ann Matthews from Glasgow, Hinda House from college, Mary Elder a dear friend for over 50 years in Louisville. Ann shared a special relationship with Debbie Steer, Lee Ann’s dear friend from high school. Lastly, Ann had many friends from her bridge club groups.
There are not enough words to say “thank you” to Monica, Ann’s favorite daughter-in-law. Monica has been there for Ann every step of the way over the last 42 years.
Our family is also forever grateful to Hosparus Health including moms lead hospice nurse MaryJo Green and moms lead CNA Ayla Schoenhoff.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 1pm - 3pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village. A Celebration of Ann's life will begin at 3:00 pm after the visitation.
Ann will be inurned in Glasgow, Kentucky with her family at a later date.
