She had a difficult childhood during World War II and German occupation and she took care of her sick mother for many years. She knew hunger and deprivation of all sorts.
After the war, she married Raphael Lopategui, from which she had two children, Jean and Philippe. Jacqueline and Raphael had an adventurous life and traveled extensively in Europe and the Indian Ocean. As true pioneers and entrepreneurs, they were involved in many different walks of life including Clothes design and French fine wines. After the passing of her Raphael, she remarried with David Mendenhall a retired US Navy musician. She became a US citizen and she settled in La Jolla were they lived peaceful years.
When David passed away, she moved to Santa Monica. She lived in a wonderful residence and made new friends. She loved the bohemian atmosphere of Santa Monica’s streets and the Ocean boardwalk.
Her passion was her family and friends to whom she dedicated her life. She touched all of us by her selfless generosity and grace, never expecting or wanting anything in return.
She was 83 years old when she left us with dignity and serenity.
She will always live in our hearts.
