We keep hearing a voice that say “Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs.
The life I lived while I was strong”
We are sad to announce the passing of Agustin Chacon Salazar, a resident of El Paso, TX and a former resident of Los Angeles, CA. Agustin left us on July 30, 2022 at the age of 86 in his home in El Paso, TX.
Agustin was born in Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico to Tomas and Eduvigues Salazar. He grew up in CD Juarez, CH where he attended school and worked to help support his family of 4 sisters and a brother. In the 1950’s, he set out from Chihuahua to the United States where he settled in Los Angeles, CA. There he married and raised his family of 8 children 6 sons and 2 daughters with his first wife Dolores. After various types of job, he became a dish washer for the Jonathan Club. He worked hard and advanced to become Sous Chef. After several years at Jonathan Club, he changed careers and started working for the Southern California Rapid Transit District in the City of Los Angeles. He started as a bus maintenance crew member and worked his way up to become Master mechanic, specializing in wheel chair lift and electrical system. He retired after 22 ½ years with the RTD, which transitioned to MTA, and he move to El Paso, TX for retirement
Agustin maintained his love of God, cooking, the outdoors and the LA Dodgers. He was very religious, he prayed every morning to St. Jude and would attend mass at the Cathedral in CD Juarez. For many years his sisters would join him at mass and they would have breakfast in the same location where ever one knew him. During Lent, he would not allow any meat or alcohol consumption, yes he made us dry for 40 days and 40 nights. He enjoyed cooking Friday night dinners. Friends and family rush over to eat his tasty meals and play poker after. He was still a "backyard mechanic" and would help anyone fix their cars. He traveled between El Paso and Los Angeles often and would go camping with his sons and his growing list of grandchildren. His children lovingly called him Pop-the godfather. Friends of the family loved his humor, his kindness and cooking and fondly called him Pops.
Agustin is survived by 3 sisters: Catalina, Emilia, Blanca and his brother Trinidad. His 7 children: Leticia, Ricardo, Thomas, Elmer, Ruben, Henry and Nancy. 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, As well as his 2nd ex-wife Angela.
