Douglas Lee Miller, 70, of Union Grove, passed away on June 8, 2012 at a local hospital. He was born on March 20, 1942 in Talco, Texas to Irvin and Obeira Miller and was raised by his grandparents- Ellis and Agnes Miller.
Doug attended the Sabine High School and went on to Kilgore College where he studied courses that would assist him in his career with the Army National Guard. He had enlisted in the National Guard in 1961, and would actually serve full time with them from 1981 until his retirement in 1991. Before his active service, Doug worked for Steelman Electric and the Schlitz Can Plant. He married Carmen Sue Jackson on November 21, 1962 in Kilgore, Texas. Doug enjoyed keeping busy. He would find anything around the house to tinker with. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially when it came to wood work. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and visiting with people, in fact he really never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years-Sue Miller of Union Grove; Two Daughters: Teresa McNew and her husband Jackie of White Oak, and Paula Gunn of Longview; Grandchildren: Kasey Heil and her husband Charles of Longview, Sara McBride and Cody McBride of White Oak, Kim Whyte and husband Shane of Longview, Stephanie Odell and husband Shane of Keller, Lauren McNew, Jennifer McNew, Jessica McNew all of White Oak, and Jimmy McNew of Lake Cherokee; Great Grandson: Baby Landon Heil of Longview; Brothers:Roy Miller, Sr. and wife Margie of White Oak, David Miller of Hallsville; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceeded in death by his Grandparents, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home with Rev. A.O. Simmons officiating with interment to follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
