David C Alston Sr.

Mr. Alston graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Army in 1943 to serve his country during WWII. He went to basic training at Camp Polk, LA and served in the 536th Amphibius Tractor Battalion. During his service he was active in the the Invasion of Lati and the Invasion of Okinawa. He received two bronze stars for good conduct. He was awarded two bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead for the Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He also received the Expert Rifle Award and was Honorably Discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Alston returned home and went to work for L E Myres, Co. and then in 1952 went to work for the Cherokee Construction Co-Eastman Construction where he then drove one of the two trucks delivering the first loads of soil for the Eastman Kodak construction site. He went to work for Eastman Kodak during their initial hiring when the plant started and he retired from them in 1984.

Mr. Alston was a 32nd degree Mason with Lodge 404-Longview, TX, as well as a Scoutmaster while his boys were growing up and was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: David Alston, Jr. and his wife Sophie of Hallsville, and Dennis Alston of Longview; Daughter-in-law: Robin Alston of Hallsville; grandchildren: W.David Alston and wife Nicole of Duncan, OK, Chris Alston and wife Sheri of Longview, Elaine Alston of Longview, Stephanie Alston of Austin; great grandchildren: Dane, Dax and Dayce Alston of Duncan, Ok; Kyle, Taylor, Skylar, Trenton, Cameron and Emilee of Longview; Brother: Jackie Joe Alston of Longview; Brother-in-Law: R.T. Edwards of Paris, TX. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife: Elaine Alston, and Son: Michael Glenn Alston.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 10:00a.m. at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home with Dr. James Butch Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Christopher Alston, W. David Alston, Dane Alston, Dax Alston, Elaine Alston and Stephanie Alston. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 6-8:00p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to say “Thank You” to Whispering Pines Lodge for the special care and attention Mr. Alston received during his 4 years and which he called it home, also thank you to Dr. Shen for the excellent care provided and to Southern Care Hospice for their excellent care and compassion for Dad and all of the family.
