“Ginny” 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to John and Amalia (Yakel) Gomer on October 19, 1928. However, she lived her entire life in Longmont, Colorado.
Ginny was united in marriage to Lyle Paul Gehringer on September 5, 1951 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont.
Ginny had many life accomplishments including becoming one of the first female recipients of the St. George Emblem and Pope Pius XII Award in Boy Scouts, 60+ years of leadership and volunteerism with St. John’s Altar and Rosary Society; 30+ years as a competitive and leisure golfer with a couple of hole in one’s! She survived colon and breast cancer. Although Ginny enjoyed her accomplishments, above all she loved being the family’s matriarch and gatherer sharing her love wholly and fully. She prayed the rosary and “Ran the Beads” regularly for all who needed it. One of her favorite memories was working at George’s in downtown Longmont.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, sisters Ruth (John) Turchi, and Berniece and her brother John Jr.
She is survived by her husband Lyle of 71 years; children Thomas (Patty), William (Naomi), Charles (Pam), and Linda (Dan); grandchildren Brandon (Gillian), Ryan, Danielle and Paul McCurdy, Shannon, Vanessa (Jaime), Louis (Lavina) and Amalia (Dylan); great grandchildren Andrew, Kobi, Kaitlyn, Mandra, Jaila, Jayden, Jordan, Legend and Ivy Jane; great great grandchildren Malachi, Lestat, Remi and Ember; and many nieces and nephews.
During her years of golf, she had replaced many sets of spikes in her shoes so she decided, “It’s time to finally hang ‘em up and get this show on the road!!”
Recitation of the rosary and a viewing will be held Wednesday, March 8, 10:30am at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 9, 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont followed by a luncheon at the church. Committal service will be at 1:00pm at Foothills Gardens of Memory in north Longmont.
