Virginia Mae (Franzen) Anderson, 87, of Erie, Colorado passed away on February 4, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital, Longmont Colorado. Virginia was born on September 12, 1927 in Mapes, North Dakota, the 6th child of Paul Franzen, Sr. and Edith (Glenn ) Franzen. She was educated in a local countryside school and attended up until Junior High. She then worked with her siblings to maintain the family farm during and after the great depression, as her father had passed away from typhoid fever when she was an infant.Virginia raised Hampshire sheep and Hereford cows. She proudly won numerous awards for her prize winning Hampshire sheep and livestock.Virginia married Russell Anderson of Tolna, North Dakota on April 26, 1959. She became a homemaker and raised 2 children, Robert and Michele. She was an avid gardener and loved sewing. She also won many awards at the State Fair competitions for her fabulous tomat s and cabbage.Virginia moved with her family to Minot, North Dakota in 1975. Russell passed away in 2005. She then moved to Erie, Colorado in 2007 to be near her children. She was a resident at Applewood Nursing Facility for 3 months prior to her death.She is preceded in death by her husband Russell, infant son Jeffrey and 5 siblings, Paul Franzen Jr., Gretchen Desautels, Bernard Franzen, Thomas Franzen and Francis Franzen.Virginia will be dearly missed by her children, Michele (Richard ) Haggan of Erie, Colorado and Robert (Kelly) Anderson of Casper, Wyoming and sister Margaret Anne Getty of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also loved her grand dogs Paco, Bentley and Bozley. Services to be held on April 25th in Minot, ND with time and place to be announced at a later date. Inurnment at the Lakota, ND cemetery.
