Mary was born in Ann Arbor, MI on October 11, 1939 to Hazel Marie (Sweeney) and James Patrick McCarthy. She had two brothers and one sister. She grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from St. Thomas High School and then attended Mercy College University of Detroit, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Her studies were important to her and she later completed her Master’s of Psychology at University of Northern Colorado. Mary was proud to be a Registered Nurse and spent 20 years at the Mental Health Corporation of Denver, providing psychiatric nursing services until 2005.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents James and Hazel McCarthy, brother John P. McCarthy, and by her sister Catherine Marie McCarthy. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and is survived by her children, Mark Sheehan LeBlanc, Michelle Marie Meyer, Anne Marie McCarthy (Dean Arriens), and Elizabeth “Beth” Noelle Kent (Aaron), grandchildren, Ian and Elle Meyer, Cade and Cormic Arriens, Aidan Carman, and Katelyn and Joe Kent, and by her brother, James E. McCarthy.
Mary was a longtime resident of Parker, CO, but relocated to Longmont, CO in 2008. She was a woman of strong faith and became a very active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and their Choir. She volunteered delivering meals to folks in need for Meals on Wheels and volunteered providing services at the USO. She enjoyed painting and had a fond appreciation for creating stained glass art.
Mary had a heart of gold and so much love to give. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, nurse, friend, and an artist. She was blessed with a large and loving family. She enjoyed traveling the world with her children and grandchildren and volunteering close to home. She will be missed by many who dearly loved her.
A Visitation and Rosary were held for Mary on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont. Mary's Funeral Mass took place on Monday, June 20, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. A Reception followed at Mary's Home. Mary's family extends their deepest gratitude to all those that were able to attend and remember her together, those who shared memories and stories or sent flowers, and those who otherwise expressed their love and support.
