M. Corrine Ahlberg went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 3, 2016 at her home. She was 94.She was born January 17, 1922 in Longmont to Robert L. Brown, Sr. and Maude (Anderson) Brown. Growing up she attended Central Elementary school and Longmont High School (on Main St.) graduating in 1940. Corrine went on to attend the University of Colorado Boulder earning a BA in education in 1944.Corrine was an elementary school teacher until her marriage to Rodney A. Ahlberg on December 23, 1946 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. They met that spring on the church steps one Sunday morning following worship. They spent the first months of marriage in San Francisco where Rod was attending mortuary school. After his graduation in the spring of 1947 they returned to Longmont. Corrine tested for and was granted a license as a Funeral Director in Colorado.Corrine was a strong and determined woman, due in part to her successful battle with Typhoid fever as a young girl at the age of 11. After missing a year of school, she took extra classes to catch up and graduate with her class. So it was not surprising that in 1958 when they decided to embark on owning and operating their own mortuary, she gave it her all. For the next 40 years Corrine helped by working funerals, doing ladies cosmetics and hair and being in the office when Rod was away at a funerals. The success of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel was because of their partnership and shared mission to serve families at the time of loss. Perhaps her biggest contribution was to be the steady influence at home. She raised four children, who at times were a tremendous handful, especially her two sons. Corrine always provided a warm and loving home. She was a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and supported the kids in school activities, church activities and 4-H clubs.Corrine was also an active member of the Longmont Community. As a long-time member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school and was a member of Rachel Circle. Other organizations she was a member of include a charter member of P.E.O. Chapter GH, AAUW, Columbine Chapter #11 Order of the Eastern Star and Church Women United. In the 1980's Corrine and several other women saw a need in the local nursing homes to provide activities for the residents. Thus was born P.A.T. (Patient Advocacy Team). These women organized activities and outings to enhance the lives of the residents. She found great strength in God's word, the Bible. Corrine was a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship for over 15 years. This provided personal time in the Word and the opportunity to share the Word with other women. She loved to dance. Corrine and Rod were long time members of the M & M dance club and she looked forward with zeal to the quarterly dances. They belonged to the Christian Mixed Bowling league and enjoyed many Saturday nights at bowling alley. She liked to garden, sew and do crafts.Corrine is remembered for all the loving care she gave to all she knew. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert L. Brown, Jr. husband Rod and granddaughter Annika Linn Ahlberg.Corrine is survived by four children Rod Ahlberg (Vicky) of Longmont, Randy Ahlberg (Sue) of Longmont, Signe Nystuen (Paul) of West Fargo, ND and Linnea Ahlberg of Longmont, six grandchildren Cashley Ahlberg, Peder Nystuen (Katie), Adam Nystuen (Jessica), Torre Ahlberg (Susan), Krista Ahlberg and Sofia Ahlberg, three great grandchildren Trysten, Lilyahna and Evie and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
