James (Jim) Eugene Sena passed away peacefully on March 17, 2021 at his home in Firestone, after a brief illness. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. To all who knew him, he was soft spoken, but strongly opinionated, and loved to laugh and reminisce. He had an artist’s eye in all he touched, from the most intricate of drawings, to the sheen and color on a prized automobile. He loved animals, especially cats, and was known to rescue a feral cat or two, baby rabbits that had made their way too far from the nest, and toads that had wandered too close to the road. Perhaps he seemed outwardly prickly to some, but those who knew and loved him understood there was an unmatched softness and kindness inside. He will forever have a special place in the hearts of many, along with warm memories.
Jim was born in Denver on June 11, 1965, to Edwin and Marilyn (Greenwald) Sena. He was the fourth son in a family of five. Jim is survived by his three children; Andrea (Jarret), her children Lilliana and Donovan; Nickolas (Mandi); and Kristina (Isaiah), their children, Emmalyn and Isabella. Jim is also survived by his mother, Marilyn; brothers, Paul and Steven; sister, Sharon (Kent); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Janet (Montgomery) Sena and her mother, Sue. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Edwin; baby sister, Gail; brother, David; and both sets of grandparents.
Raised in the Boulder area, he graduated from Centaurus High School in 1983. Jim earned his high school diploma as well as certification in Automotive Collision Repair. He was later certified as an A.S.E. and P.P.G. Master Auto Body Tech. Jim restored and finished many cars for nearly forty years, in the Boulder/Longmont area. He also passed down his knowledge, training other technicians, demonstrating his excellent skills and keen eye for detail. He was a highly respected member of the automotive community in the Boulder County area.
Jim loved camping and fishing in the mountains with his family, especially at Red Feather Lakes and Marble. He really enjoyed working on cars in his free time, and racing “The Bird” at Bandimere Speedway. He loved to play poker at family gatherings and enjoyed playing golf on the weekends. His passions extended beyond these activities, including cooking. Jim was very well known for his deviled eggs he’d make for family gatherings.
To honor Jim’s life, a small service will be held at Howe Mortuary and Funeral Home in Longmont, Colorado, on Thursday, March 25th at 10:00am. We are respectfully requesting that everyone reach out to the family prior to attending due to COVID restrictions. There will be a celebration of Life for Jim planned for the summer. More details to come.
