James C. Graves, age 70, of Longmont passed away April 21, 2018 at Longmont United Hospital.He was born March 6, 1948 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Clinton and Beatrice (Doane) Graves. Jim attended Franklin and Washington grade schools, Jamestown Junior High and graduated from Jamestown High School class of 1967.The family moved to Grand Junction, CO and then to Longmont in 1971. Jim was employed as a food processer at Longmont Foods from October of 1973 until 1995.He was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, having been confirmed at Nebo Lutheran Church in 1963, and a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1971.Jim was a very active member of the Longmont Jaycees. He served many years as Chaplain, was a chapter Director 1981-84, received the Jaycees Ambassador award on May 4, 1985 and was elected to the J.C. Senate in 1991. In his letter of application for the Senate, Jim's long-time friend Harold Miller wrote: Jim Graves is very dedicated to the Longmont Jaycees. He lives and breathes Jaycees. He is and always will be our chaplain. Jim g s to every project, chapter meeting, visitation, state conferences and will do anything that the Jaycees ask. Being a member of the Jaycee organization has had a strong effect on Jim, as he has learned about responsibility, leadership, sociability and team work.Jim was a loving and caring son, devoted to both his father and his mother and they were equally devoted to Jim. They taught him to love and care about family and friends, give compassion and charity to others and to believe in and trust God. His father Clinton passed away on March 2, 1988 and his mother Bea on December 11, 2012.Jim leaves behind many cousins, loved ones and friends.Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Monday April 30, 2018 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
