She was born to Wilfred and Amelia Taylor on January 19, 1938, in Winchester, Massachusetts. Helen graduated from Tufts University in 1959 with a Classics major then moved to California where she met her future husband, William Martin. They married on January 28, 1961, and were married for almost 49 years before his passing. She went back to school for her Master’s in Library Science at Denver University graduating in 1988. While working at the public library in Broomfield, Colorado, she advanced to Library Director and built two libraries before she retired in 2003.
She loved her children and her grandchildren more than anything in the world. She was an avid reader, and all her books were triple stacked on her bookshelves because she never gave books away, not bearing to part with any of them. She loved gardening and derived great pleasure watching her flowers and especially her multitude of roses bloom in the summer. Her Mother’s Day gift was always a trip to the florist to get the season’s flowers. Her other passion was the Boston Red Sox. She and her father faithfully went to games at Fenway Park or listened to their team on the radio much to her mother’s chagrin.
She is survived by her three children, Laura (Mac) Martin, Mark (Rose) Martin, and Linda Brown, and her seven grandchildren Anthony and Nicholas Brausch; Brett, Randall, and Eric Martin; and Taylor and Colton Brown. She will be remembered as an extremely intelligent, loving, caring and thoughtful woman who took care of everyone around her before herself; as a strong, independent, vibrant woman who managed to support her family during hard times, and a woman who never failed to show her affection to those around her. She will be dearly missed by all who cherished her.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes all those who desire to make a donation in her name to the Broomfield Library Friends Foundation, American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or PanCAN. A viewing for Helen will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 12:00PM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501 followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM. The burial will be held the same day at 2:00PM at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery 620 11th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501, followed by a reception at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
