Doug grew up in the Seattle and Yakima, Washington areas. After high school he attended radio announcing school and eventually worked as a radio announcer in Oregon and Idaho. While working as a radio announcer in Idaho in 1961, Doug joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1962, he served a mission to Frankfurt, Germany.
After his mission, Doug returned to Sacramento, California where he met Linda Hallam. Doug and Linda were married in 1965 in the Oakland Temple. Doug and Linda moved to San Luis Obispo, California where Doug completed a degree in Electronic Engineering. Doug worked in various engineering jobs in California, New Mexico and Minnesota until 1981 when the family settled in Longmont, Colorado.
Doug had many interests. Anything he undertook he did 110%. He was a lifelong avid ham radio operator. He was very active, enjoying tennis, swimming, hiking, and running among other activities. Doug was an expert genealogist and has helped many people with their family histories. Doug especially loved his years serving in the temple.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda, and by his daughter, Jenn Altman.
Doug had a deeply felt belief and faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee”
