Carolyn was born on November 22, 1949, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Arthur Luvene and Ethel Marilyn (Horner) Heald. The oldest of six children, she grew up in Mt. Sterling and Keosauqua, Iowa. She graduated from Van Buren High School and went on to attend the University of South Dakota, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was teaching high school English in Lodgepole, Nebraska, when a mutual friend set her up on a date with Stanley Miyasaki of Lafayette, Colorado, in the summer of 1974. She and Stanley were married on June 29, 1975, and remained so for 49 years.
In her free time, Carolyn enjoyed word games, puzzles, and reading, and she had a passion for genealogy, environmental issues, and her blue convertible Mustang. She loved road-trips and her two granddaughters most of all.
She was preceded in death by her parents and niece Mary Grace Heald. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Stanley; her daughters, Gretchen Wilkinson of Denver, Colorado, and Jenny Miyasaki of Los Angeles, California; her granddaughters, Rowen Wilkinson of Brooklyn, New York, and Blythe Wilkinson of Denver; her brother, Bob (Shelly) Heald of Keosauqua; her sisters Gloria White of Keosauqua, Julie (Todd) Gatz of Ely, Minnesota, Mary (Jan) Watson of Urbandale, Iowa, and Tracey (Mike) Crees of Des Moines, Iowa; her best friend, Denise Fritz of Longmont; her sisters-in-law, Judy Miyasaki of Erie, Colorado, and Cynthia Matsumoto of Manhattan Beach, California; her brother-in-law, Mark Miyasaki of Charlottesville, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Longmont on June 15, 2024. Details to come. Memorial contributions can be made to the Natural Resources Defense Council or the Longmont Humane Society.
