Bryan was one of five children born to Leo Merlin and Darlene (Burrier) Kalvig on May 29, 1962 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He grew up in Iowa and graduated from North Tama High School. In 1986, Bryan relocated from Des Moines, Iowa to Longmont. Colorado and the Rocky Maintains would become his home. He married the love of his life, Michelle, at the City of Longmont Courthouse in Boulder, Colorado on April 9, 2009.
Bryan worked as a supervisor in manufacturing for a local injection molding company. He was a hardworking man and was well respected by those he worked with. He liked to go bowling, fishing and boating as well as other outdoor activities. He loved watching football and he loved the Denver Broncos. More than anything else, Bryan loved his family and look forward to every opportunity life gave to spend time with them.
Bryan was a wonderful man. He was kind and compassionate but was also very forward and would speak his mind. Though he could seem very serious at times, he was really a big softy that cared deeply for his two little dogs, Luna and Okie. He always did the right thing, no matter the consequences. He had a generous heart and would help anyone who asked without thinking what he might gain in return. He was a genuine down to earth kind of guy who was most comfortable in his favorite pair of blue jeans and Broncos T-shirt. He had an incredible sense of humor and would often joke around. His bright, beautiful smile an infectious laughter were hard to resist. He was very supportive of his family and friends and was always looking out for the best interests of those he loved, whether they wanted him to or not. He always looked out for what was most important to him, his family.
Bryan was always very thoughtful. He would leave little notes around the house for Michelle just so she would know he was thinking of her. He wanted nothing more than to protect his children and his grandchildren. He was the rock in his family. To his granddaughter, Alex, he was also a best friend. Bryan was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Words alone cannot describe how very deeply he will be missed.
Bryan leaves behind a beautiful legacy and is survived by his wife and best friend, Michelle Kalvig, sons, Michael English (Becky), Jonathon Kalvig (fiancé Katie), daughter, Sondra Arrieta, and by his grandchildren, Alexzandrea Thurby, Elionai Swanson, Ryan English, Liam English and Silas English. He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Graveman (Steve) and Nancy Jacobs (Wade), nephews, Dalton Kalvig, Curtis Kalvig, Kevin Harmsen, Cyrus Shuler, and Dezmond Shuler; nieces, Maddie Kalvig, Brittney Kalvig, Jenny Kopf (Charley), and Tanesha Sasakura (David), great nephew, Caden, great nieces, Sydni and Delyla, his mother-in-law, Sandra Shuler, brother-in- law, Mike Schuler, and family friend, ex son in law, Tim Swanson, as well as many close friends and collegues. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Darlene Kalvig, his brothers, Doug Kalvig and Tim Kalvig, and nephew, Scott Harmsen.
