Bernice Evelyn Thyfault, 98, Born on October 3, 1925, took a escalator staircase straight to heaven on November 24, 2023. Bernice was born in Stockton, Kansas on the farm. She was one of six sisters, and seven brothers. Her father was John Rogers with Cecelia Rogers her mother. Bernice graduated Jr. High, after two tries, also being very hard of hearing only reading the teachers lips and reading the chalkboard. She was raised in Stockton, Kansas, with all her family.
After marriage Bernice moved to Ft. Collins, CO, then living in Longmont for several years, she was living in Berthoud with her son Joseph at the time of her passing. Bernice was raised in the church, and did the same with her kids. Bernice had 4 grandkids, and a growing bunch of great grandkids. She loved the church and the beautiful choir. She loved to babysit kids from ages 2 to 7 years old with no problem. Bernice loved her family and good western movies.
Bernice was a Saint, the sweetest, kindest, smartest person you ever met. She was always smiling telling us all it will be alright, as Dad would always say, “her love and warmth was more than all of the tea in China". She was Dad's Kansas Sunflower. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers & sisters and grandparents.
Grandpa would say, Benny go get some chickens, she’d ask how many?, then go catch a few chickens, by ringing their necks. She would cut um, fry um, then plate um. She was a cooks cook, a baker still making apple pies at 98 years young. She was a fried chicken expert, from an early age on the farm.
On Sunday around noon, after church, we would have fried chicken for lunch. We are at peace knowing that she is with her family in Heaven, and everything will be alright knowing she is also in Heaven, with Jesus.
There will be a Memorial Mass on Monday December 4, 2023 at 10am, at The St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, the inurnment will take place at a later date in The St. Thomas Cemetery, in Stockton, Kansas.
