Condolences to my cousin, Ruth, and her entire family in their loss.  Although distance and commitments preclude family visits and getting to know one another better, it is still sad to lose a family member.  I treasure what I know about Art and what he was to his family and others.  May he Rest In Peace . 

Art was my first cousin, and the baby in his family as I was the baby in mine.  When he was about 14 or 15, he asked my dad's permission to dig a swimming pool in our backyard.  My sisters and I were amazed and delighted when my father  said yes (knowing full well, of course, that it would be some daunting task).  Nevertheless, Art started digging and, though as my father surely predicted, the massive hole did not become a swimming pool, it was big enough to have been visible from the back windows of our living room for the rest of the time we lived in that house.  Instead of blue water, if became filled with bluebells, a fitting tribute and reminder of my beloved cousin.  

i had the pleasure to occupy the office adjacent to Art from 1977-1980. What  a fine man, an outstanding, ethical  lawyer,  and a great mentor he was. One of those positive influences in your  life that you never forget. The world needs more Art Downeys, and is a better place as a result of his presence. He was a truly a ray of  light that dissipates the darkness. It was a great privilege to have had the opportunity to know him and learn from him early in my career. 

My dear Uncle Art was so fun to play with when I was little in the waves at the beach, skiing on the slopes of Colorado and hiking in the mountains. He was also great with advice and comforted me in times of stress and sorrow sometimes just by listening. I will miss him terribly. Aunt Gwen, Drew, Neal and Anne I hope you are comforted too by your great memories of him. 

Gwen - we were so sorry to hear the news about Art. I had the privilege of working with Art for many years on the home owners committees.   He was always dedicated and thorough in these efforts.   He will be missed!  Please know that you have our sympathy. We are traveling and unfortunately will miss his celebration of life.

My cousin, Art, was more like a big brother to me and my sisters as we were all growing up in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. He always had fun ideas for games and activities.
I will miss his softspoken voice, his wit, and his twinkly eyes....so much like my Aunt Charlotte's. 
May you rest in peace. Well done good and faithful servant.

We are so sorry to about Art.   He was such a wonderful man.   He was always there for our family.   Jerry was so grateful for everything.  We are out of town so cannot be able to attend his service.  God comfort to your family.  Muilenburg family 

Uncle Art was the sweetest man I knew. He was gentle, kind and a wonderful listener. I fondly remember reading Arthur books with him and remember loving that my favorite cartoon was also my uncles name. He will be greatly missed 

I remember meeting Art when I was a young lawyer. He was speaking at a seminar. He told us a story, someone asked him: "Art, how is it that you have been so successful in your career?"  Art responded: "Settle the losers" (the bad cases).  Great advice that I never forgot. RIP Art! Great man!

Art and I, together with Mike Oldham and Jim Fattor, practiced law together at the Weller firm at the beginning of our carriers. Over the years we went our separate ways but always stayed in touch. After retirements, we kept in contact with occasional lunches. I was amazed that we seemed to pickup where we had left off without missing a beat. Art was a great lawyer and person who I am proud to have had as a friend for over 58 years. I shall miss him.  geoff race

My sincere condolences to Gwen and Art's family.  I had the pleasure of working with Art and his associates at the Downey Law Firm in my capacity as an Insurance agent and financial advisor.  I was always  impressed with Art's professionalism.
