Richard Allen Wood was born to Jeffrey and Elizabeth Wood on January 1, 1942 in South Gate, CA. He has two brothers, John and Dale.
His family lived in South Gate, Chino, and Indio before moving back to Compton, CA when he was 13 years old. Living on Pelleur Street with his family he met many friends, including the love of his life, Shirley Enders and they began dating in high school. He proposed to Shirley on Christmas Eve in 1965 and they married the following May of 1966. Uncle Sam came calling in October of 1966 for him to serve in the U.S. Army. He spent the majority of his time serving at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Upon discharge from the Army, Richard and Shirley moved back to CA and purchased their home in Long Beach in March of 1969. The favorite son, Jeff, was born that summer in 1969. His little girl, Kim, was born in June of 1971. The family complete, he remained living in the Long Beach home until his passing. Richard worked in the retail industry at Market Basket for approximately 20 years. He worked for a few smaller retail suppliers followed by time at Sam’s Club and retired in 2006.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed attending Grace First Presbyterian Church, spending time with his family, friends, golfing and traveling. He also began working at Angels Stadium as an usher.
Richard is known as a calm person who loved to travel, go for drives, and spoiling his grandchildren Jake, Janelle, Seth, Marissa, and sneaking treats to his dog, Annie.
