Maureen was born on 1st October 1933, in Dublin, Ireland, the youngest daughter of John and Alice Kelly. She had two sisters and one brother – Lily, Josie and Ned – of which only Josie survives her.
Maureen grew up and was educated in the heart of Dublin city, where she attended Loreto College on St. Stephens Green. Following her education, she began working in Dublin for a time before deciding to go to live and work in London in the early 1960s. During her time in London she worked in various positions including time spent at the BBC (British Broadcasting Company).
It was in London where she met Jim Richardson, a serving member of the US Air Force who was stationed there at that time. Jim and Maureen married in London and moved to the US shortly afterwards. Jim was the love of Maureen’s life and her best friend until his death in 2013.
Following a short time spent in different US cities, Jim and Maureen settled in Long Beach, California. Maureen continued working and held positions in The Long Beach Convention Centre and The Breakers for many years. Following Jim’s death in 2013 Maureen continued to live in Long Beach up to her death on 17th June, 2020.
Maureen’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Shoreline Healthcare Centre and the staff and nurses at Delightful Aging, Downey, for their care and treatment of Maureen during her time spent in their care.
They would also especially like to thank Maureen’s friends Muriel and Andra for their help and support shown to Maureen and the family over the last couple of months.
“We will remember Maureen fondly and with love. We will cherish memories of her visits home to Ireland and our visits to Long Beach. May she rest in peace”.
