Sharon Lee Martzolff of Plymouth, Michigan passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the age of 82. She was surrounded by family in her final moments at Angela Hospice in Livonia after a very sudden decline in her health.
Sharon was born to John and Gina “Jean” (Francesconi) Venuto on November 2, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. She would complete her education and graduate from Cody High School (Detroit) in 1959. On May 25, 1963, Sharon married the love of her life, George “Jerry” Martzolff, in a beautiful ceremony. They were happily married for 28 years until Jerry’s death in 1991. Sharon and Jerry had three children together.
On June 29, 2007, Sharon retired from her position as Head Teller at Bank of America (Plymouth) and loved spending her free time with family and her many friends. Her grandchildren have fond memories of visiting her when she worked at White Rabbit Toys (Novi) in the early 2000’s. People were drawn to her confidence and determination, but also her friendliness and love of laughter.
Sharon was popular among family and friends for her Italian cooking and baking. Her lasagna, mostaccioli, sausage, soups, and cookie recipes were favorites at holiday celebrations. She enjoyed cooking for sick family members and bringing them comfort food to help in their recovery.
When you stopped by her house to visit, she was sure to be in her favorite chair watching a movie on Lifetime or Hallmark Channel. Her home was always festively decorated for holidays and felt warm, cheerful, and welcoming. She would often have her card table set out in her living room, putting a puzzle together. After she finished the puzzle, she’d grab one of her favorite variety puzzle books to keep her mind sharp. Sharon enjoyed playing bingo with friends, expressing creativity through countless craft projects, and going to the movie theater to enjoy popcorn and a show. She was also known to read up on Hollywood gossip in People Magazine.
Sharon will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her children Catharine (Kimberly) Martzolff, David (Veronica) Martzolff, Dawn (Mark) Michlewicz; grandchildren Matthew Michlewicz, Marissa (Matthew) Powers, Jeremy (Noel) Martzolff, Nicole Michlewicz, Emily Michlewicz; brother Michael (Theresa) Venuto; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry and her parents John and Jean.
Sharon will be laid to rest and reunited with Jerry at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia. A memorial service will be held at St. Edith Church in Livonia on Saturday, May 25 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Angela Hospice in Sharon’s name.
