Michael Glenn Blumhardt

Mike grew up in Whittaker and graduated from Lincoln Consolidated High School in Ypsilanti in 1971. On July 29, 1978, he married Terese Barlage. As a young man he worked at Pinter’s Greenhouse. In 1984 he graduated from Eastern Michigan University Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Aided Design Development. He often reminisced about the challenging and rewarding work he did in California for Northrup-Grumman as a software engineer. After a long career in software engineering he retired in 2016. He spent much of his spare time gardening and listening to music. He was proud of his outdoor sound system and would often do both simultaneously. He spent so much time in the yard that he befriended the neighborhood. He loved his large extended family and enjoyed attending various gatherings. He was a deep thinker and very loyal to his friends and family. Mike was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who was invariably present and active in the lives of his wife, two children, and grandson. He was a devoted husband enjoying long walks with his wife. On occasion he happily spent time in the kitchen helping his daughter make soft German pretzels. He enjoyed discussing car mechanics and sports with his son. Most of all he was fond of mornings on the front porch with his grandson, Percy.

Survived by his wife of 43 years, Terese; daughter, Carolyn (Matthew Marquart) Blumhardt; son, Mark (Elizabeth Ellis) Blumhardt; grandson, Percival "Percy" Marquart. Also survived by siblings, Tom (Janice) Blumhardt, Rob (Karen) Blumhardt, Rosemary (Arnie) Kempher, Don (Mary) Blumhardt, Fred (Jean) Blumhardt, MaryAnne Blumhardt, John (Coleen) Blumhardt, and Barbara Blumhardt; sisters-in-law, Marge Draper, Marlene Blumhardt, Joann Blumhardt and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was pre-deceased by brothers, Dick Draper, Harold Blumhardt, Bill Blumhardt and sister, Carolyn Sue Blumhardt.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. On Friday, October 8, 2021, visitation continues from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m.
