Flora Maude Mooneyhan was born in Greeneville, Tennessee on April 26, 1922. She was named after one of her aunts, yet her family started calling her Maude at a young age and that is the name she always used.
Maude was one of thirteen children in the family and as a young child worked the farm alongside her older siblings. She was an avid reader and getting an education was very important to her. She was a graduate of Greeneville High School, and in May 1943 graduated from east Tennessee State Teachers College with a degree in elementary Education. She taught in Tennessee for 6 1/2 years prior to moving to Michigan.
Maude married Albert David Wilburn in October 1944 and they were married for 63 years until his sudden death in February 2008.
After moving to Michigan, Maude was hired as a Second Grade Teacher at Mason School in South Redford where she taught for the next 31 years. Maude got her Master's in Reading at Eastern Michigan University in June of 1967. She was given the position of Remedial Reading Consultant for the District. She worked with children at risk in their reading levels. She worked in two Public Schools and one Parochial School in the district.
After retiring from teaching in 1985, Maude went to Saint Mary's Mercy Hospital in Livonia to volunteer. She spent the next 24 years working all over the hospital.
In June of 2012 Maude received the Certificate of Appreciation for 50 years membership in Delta Kappa Gamma Kappa Chapter of Michigan an Honorary Teaching Sorority.
Maude loved to read, garden, and visit with her family and friends, attending her church services, and her Bible Study classes at her former church Memorial Church of Christ in Livonia.
