

Mark Francis Schikora, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 75, in Novi, Michigan. He was born on December 7, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to Donald and Cecilia (Plock) Schikora. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his Uncle Walter Plock.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon (née Lakomy) Schikora, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. They met in 1979, introduced by mutual friends. Mark and Sharon began dating, fell in love, and were married on February 13, 1981. He is also survived by their two sons, Joseph (Kathryn) Schikora and Steven Schikora, and his three cherished grandchildren, Evelyn, Robert, and Henry. Mark also leaves behind his brother, John Schikora, his sisters-in-law, Mary (Bill) McKee and Phyllis Bieda, and his nieces and nephews, Brian, Sarah, Jennifer, Sean, and Shannon. Mark will also be missed by his lifelong friends, John P., Vic, Dave, John C., Bob, Bill, Tony, Larry, Matt, and Agnes.
Mark was a proud United States Navy veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1972. After his honorable discharge, he continued his career in telecommunications, beginning as a field service technician and dedicating 37 years in the field. He retired from AT&T (formerly Michigan Bell) in 2007, having earned the love and respect of his colleagues.
In his personal life, Mark was known for his dedication to his family, his hardworking nature, and his unwavering love for those closest to him. He took great pride in caring for his home and yard, with a special passion for his bountiful gardens of flowers. Mark enjoyed family vacations, including memorable camping trips to Higgins Lake, road trips to Petoskey, Glen Arbor, and Traverse City, and visits to Mackinac Island.
As an avid sports fan, Mark always supported the University of Michigan Football team, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Tigers; some of his fondest memories were made on trips to Comerica Park to cheer loudly for the Tigers.
Above all, his family meant everything to him. He was an all-around family man, whose kindness, generosity, and steadfast love will be remembered by all who knew him.
Mark’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville, Michigan 48167. Mark’s family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary Service taking place at 7:00 pm, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152, and again at Church on Wednesday, from 10:30 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. In accordance with Mark’s wishes, cremation will follow.
