Margaret R. Schmidt, 92, of New Hudson (formerly of Jackson, Michigan) passed away July 15, 2019 in Novi. Mrs. Schmidt was born on October 11, 1926 in Detroit to Rudolph and Augusta (nee: Marassus) Behnke, the youngest of five children. She married Howard Schmidt in 1945 and together they raised their three sons in Southgate. Margaret was very active at Redeemer Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at Foote Hospital both in Jackson, Michigan. She was an exceptional quilter and the family dearly holds many of her creations.
Margaret is survived by three sons, Howard (Joanne) Schmidt, Gary (Karen) Schmidt and Dennis (Meg) Schmidt; five granddaughters, Lauren (Kevin) Sutton, Bethany (Jason) Scott, Kristen (Scott) Sitek, Tammy (Kurt) Wendling, and Kelly (Charles) Adamson. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schmidt was pre-deceased by her parents, siblings, husband and granddaughter, Courtney Schmidt. A private memorial service will be scheduled in the near future. Mrs. Schmidt donated her body to Michigan State University Willed Body Program.
