Gloria formerly resided in Redford Township and in Detroit. She was born on January 2, 1925 in Detroit. She was a January, 1943 graduate of Detroit McKenzie High School and worked as an administrative assistant at Nash Kelvinator in Highland Park after graduation. She traveled with her two best friends, Cathy Eagle and Betty Weldon and enjoyed some adventures with them in New York City, New York, Saugatuck, Michigan and in Canada.
Gloria volunteered as a Navy Anchorette during World War II, traveling throughout Michigan, helping with Navy recruiting, selling war bonds, hosting canteens and entertaining troops. Her friendship with ten women from the group continued for over fifty years, with monthly meetings and vacation trips.
Gloria met Milton (Bud) Savich at a dance at the Detroit Grande Ballroom in 1946. They married on January 24, 1948 and enjoyed a honeymoon in New Orleans, Louisiana.
They raised three children in Redford Township, before moving to Livonia. Gloria and Bud enjoyed golfing and bowling together and took some memorable vacations to Hawaii, England, the Bahamas and the Canadian Rockies. Bud passed away in 2007, after 59 and a half happy years together.
Gloria was a member and past president of the Roosevelt Elementary School PTO and The Redford Suburban League. She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. Gloria enjoyed needlepoint, refinishing furniture, bowling, golf (And was very proud of her hole-in-one!), shopping, traveling and above all, her family, friends and her cat, Zoey.
Gloria is survived by her children; Douglas (Claudia Tibbets) Savich of Gloucester, MA, Dawn Parker of Canton, MI and Philip (Kathleen) Savich of Petoskey, MI and her grandchildren; Kelly (Chris) Allen, Rob Parker, Christopher Savich and Patrick Savich, as well as great-granddaughters; Ashley Allen and Rayleigh May. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Orie L. Pomeroy and her four brothers; Orie, Richard, Charles and Robert and husband, Milton (Bud).
Gloria will be remembered with love, by those who knew her.
A private memorial service will take place in spring, 2023.
