Joseph Francis Schmidt, 75, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2021. Joe was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 22, 1945 to Joseph F. and Helen T. (Srodaj) Schmidt, one of their six children. He graduated from Redford Union High School in 1963 and went into the Tool & Die business working his entire career from age 16 until retirement in 2018, at age 73; loyal to the same company throughout. When not working Joe was a true fan and enjoyed watching all our Detroit Sports teams while enjoying a "cold one". Another pastime was waiting on his lottery numbers to come in. Family was important to Joe especially his daughters.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Wendy Rae (David) Bongero and Colleen Jodi (John) Filippelli; grandchildren, Alexa Bongero, Paige Bongero, Anton Bongero, Olivia (Josh) DeYonker, Jackson Campo, and Jordan Campo; sisters, Lorraine (John) Hicks, Susan Obando, Diane Butka; brother, Richard Schmidt. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was pre-deceased by his sister Felicia.
Friends and family may visit on Friday - May 7, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI 48152.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 1500 Rosecrans Ave #200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 (www.pancan.org).
