Mike grew up on a farm in Mitchell, South Dakota, fostering a deep love for nature. An army veteran and a brilliant mechanical engineer, Mike earned his bachelor's degree from South Dakota School of Mines and worked for 40 years as a head engineer at United States Gypsum Company. He possessed an extraordinary knack for fixing anything. On September 9, 1961, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Harvey. Together, they raised three loving children and built a family filled with love and laughter.
A true handyman and devoted family man, Mike was an exceptional father and husband. He adored his children and grandchildren. He spent countless hours fishing, bowling, playing pool, and golfing. His beautiful garden, a haven for hummingbirds, was a testament to his love for nature. Known for his great sense of humor and love of life, Mike brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
Mike's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife Dorothy, his three children: Edward Callan, Michele (Enrico Fiorani) Callan, and Joanie (John Lyons) Callan; and his two grandchildren: Giorgia Fiorani and Sinead Lyons as well as by his many nieces and nephews, sister in law, Bev Callan, and brother in law, Vince Harvey. He is preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers: Tom Callan, Ray Callan, and Pat Callan.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, MI.
Mike's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and nature will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
