Guido Di Mambro was born in Cassino, Italy, on April 11, 1923, to the late Giuseppe and Maria Di Mambro. A strong, passionate man, he was raised in Italy and fought in WWII for the Italian army. Guido married the love of his life, the late Costanza “Connie” Di Mambro, on October 2, 1947. They began their life together in Spineto as farm workers before moving to Olivella where Guido worked on the construction of the village’s power plant. He then began traveling to and from Paris where he found new opportunities to work to support his growing family. After nine years of raising two daughters with Connie in Italy, Guido embarked on his brave journey to establish roots in the United States for himself and his family. Two years later, in 1958, Guido sponsored his wife and two daughters to join him and to settle in Metro Detroit. A man of many crafts, Guido provided for his family in many ways as it grew to include two more daughters and six grandchildren.
He worked in construction, but his labor of love was his garden which he nurtured for years. A sincere and impassioned person, Guido opened his kindness and love for life with others in sharing samplings of his garden with every visitor. Guido also spent time handcrafting shooting stars for his family’s Christmas decor and later on, bird houses representing the loving home he created to raise his family. He always cherished being with his loved ones, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and enjoying all’s company under the shade of his red maple tree.
Guido passed away on October 13, 2019, in Plymouth, MI, at the age of 96. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he graced. Guido was the loving husband of (the late) Costanza for 69 years. Cherished father of Anita (James) Jabara, Francesca (Warren Valente) Di Mambro, Maria Dario and Rita Siedlaczek.
