Catherine H. McAlinden

Catherine Helen McAlinden was born July 18, 1929 in Ferndale, Michigan to her parents John and Catherine Kelly. Catherine passed away on December 29, 2021 at age 92. Beloved wife of the late Patrick D. McAlinden. Loving mother of Sean (Sara), Daniel (Maya), Maureen (Mark), Patrick, and Jimmy. Cherished grandmother of Brendan, Patrick, and Liam. Dear great grandmother of Sophia, Samuel, and Charlotte. Dearest sister-in-law of Rosemary Kelly, who was more like a true sister and best friend. She is also survived by dearest sister-in-laws Kay McAlinden and Sheila McAlinden, who provided much comfort and support. Cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews, and dearest godmother of many. Faithful companion to Millie, her dog. She is preceded in death by brothers John and James Kelly, and sisters Mary Eizonas and Theresa Russo.

Catherine, known as “Kitty” to most, accomplished many things throughout her life and loved living life to the fullest. She proudly graduated from St. Catherine High School in Detroit. She had many fond memories working for General Motors, and she took great pride in her time there. Catherine and her late husband spent many years teaching square dancing to the Detroit community. She was a longtime member of St. Colette Catholic Church in Livonia, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. For many years, she would spend summer vacations with her family in northern Michigan, together with the Santoro family. She also enjoyed many great memories of her time with the Red Hat Society. After retiring, Kitty and Pat spent long winters down in Florida where they made many new friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Colette Catholic Church in Livonia, on Saturday January 22, 2022 at 10am (memorial gathering from 9-10am).

A memorial luncheon and gathering will be held in summer of 2022 in memory of Kitty.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Capuchin Friars or the Multiple Myeloma Foundation in Catherine’s memory.
