Loving mother to Stuart, and wife, Rachel, Leslie (and the late former spouse, Sam), and Philip and wife Lori. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Evan and spouse, Jackie, Madeline, Ally and betrothed Zachary, Benjamin, and Skyler. Her great grandchildren, Nina and Isaac, brought her great joy in her later years. She was adored and cherished by her late husband, Jerry, of 59 years.
Known for her charm, wit, and warmth, and wonderful sense of style and distinctive talent for interior design, Shirley will be dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Shirley graduated from Brooklyn College in Education, and taught English, Social Studies, and Special Education in several public schools in New Jersey. She took a break from teaching to raise her family during which time she became a Social Editor for the News-Record of Maplewood and South Orange where Shirley and Jerry were long-time residents. Following her retirement, Shirley tutored students privately.
Through becoming members of Synagogue Oheb Shalom, Shirley and Jerry made lasting, meaningful friendships. Beyond her love of her family, Shirley’s passions included theater, politics, fashion, and travel.
In lieu of flowers, donations, with great appreciation, may be made to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
