I was privileged to know Aunt Sheila for the last 20 years and witness how meaningful she was to my wife Shay.  Sheila always showed me much warmth and kindness whenever I would see her or talk to her on the phone.  She was a wonderful person who impacted so many lives.  My deepest condolences go to Mark and Sheryl in coping with this great loss.  Rest in peace Aunt Sheila.

Sad to hear that serilyn’s  mother-in-law passed away. I never met her, but I can see from the photos that she was a very affable mother! May she rest in peace! My sincere condolences to the rest of the family!

Aunt Sheila, known as "Baby" amongst her siblings and parents, was and is, clearly in my memory and will be missed enormously.  Having her not on the planet has been hard to accept but I know from recent reports of her illness that this means she is now free from pain and discomfort.  This is what we would all wish for someone that is so dear and has focused so much love unto us.

Aunt Sheila was many life-lines for my small family.  She was a constant in my life.  She was my mother's best friend for sixty years.  She was inadvertently a matchmaker.  In New Jersey, at approx. 24 years of age, She introduced my mother to her brother, Selwyn Gross, and they would fall in love quickly after.  In this kismet way, the best friends then became sister-in-laws.

It's great to share that my mother returned the magical favor and is the person that introduced her friend (future brother-in-law), George Weinberger, to Sheila Gross and recommended to Uncle George that he go on a date with Aunt Sheila!

 Less than ten years later, Aunt Sheila and Uncle George saw us monthly in NJ and every milestone was celebrated with them.  The four adults had a close bond.  I, as a child, either slept at their home to be with these fun relatives, The Weinbergers, or they came to our house and Sheryl for sleepovers.  

From 1985- approximately 2004, I spoke on the phone with Aunt Sheila every week.  She offered advice and counsel, lots of giggles and we talked of the new show, "The Real Housewives of Orange County" and her delight in it.  When I sought family stories to comfort me and to hear about her brother (my first dad) that had passed away, she was always willing to tell me about her parents, their many house changes and my dad growing up.

Aunt Sheila and will always be a key person for everyone in my family.  She helped me negotiate my 20's and onward.  

With deep sadness and much love, my family sends our deepest condolences to Cousin Mark and Cousin Sheryl and their lovely families.

As I watched Sheila’s funeral all the love came through my live stream. She was a special lady and I will always remember her kindness and truly her ability to ask so many questions, wanting to know how we were all doing. These conversations always included at the family Hanukkah party. You all spoke well and our hearts are with you during these difficult days. May she rest in peace and watch over everyone she loved.

I am extremely sad at the passing of Aunt Sheila, so very kind and loving, a wonderful aunt to us and even better sister, wife and mother.

My family loved spending time with the Weinbergers growing up, whether they came to see us in Maryland or we went to New Jersey. In later years, on the occasions of family gatherings, it was great to catch up – talking sports with Uncle George instantly comes to mind. 

My wife Jane and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Mark and Serilyn in Charlotte and know a return visit is long overdue. These two have superpowers, I swear.

It was delightful and important that Jane and I were able to visit with Aunt Sheila last fall while in New Jersey for Heather Hodder’s amazing wedding. I couldn’t remember the last time I had seen Aunt Sheila as well as cousin Sheryl. So very, very nice to spend time with them. Having Mark and Serilyn there as well as my sisters and their families made for an emotional reunion, thankfully preserved in photos. Aunt Sheila was the star of the show, and her delight in seeing all of us made for a cherished memory that will last forever. I would have deeply regretted not being there, and Jane would never have met her. Thank you to everyone who helped make that visit happen.

To Mark and Sheryl and their families, know that we share your grief in the passing of Aunt Sheila, as we did with Uncle George. They are greatly missed by all of us. It was so nice to catch up with them at the family gatherings. Too many years have passed since our family last saw Aunt Sheila (I believe it was at David Mathai's bar mitzvah in 2014, pictured above). Although Chandra,  Joshua and I never had the honor or privilege to personally meet Mrs. Weinberger we did, however,  meet & know her son Mark & his wife Serilyn. Their characters derive from parents that demonstrated family ethics, kindness, humility, sentimentality & especially love. Our hearts ache with Mark & his family for the loss of communication and  inability to see her now. But we believe she is truly at peace & happy to be with her husband & other loved ones that preceeded her. May God welcome her home in a warm joyful embrace. My mother, Sheila, will be missed greatly by the entire family.  While she gave up her career to raise our family, she continued to be an avid reader, whether it be biographies of famous figures from history and Hollywood, or nail-biting mysteries, she never let her failing health prevent her from reading the latest best-sellers.  My mother followed the news every day and was deeply concerned about the heartbreaking events of October 7th.  She always was focused on the wellbeing of her family before herself - including taking care of my father, George, 24/7 for over a decade when his health was failing.
