I still miss her, my dearest friend, my "sister".

Dear Irv,
We are so sad!! 
Sandy’s life is a special legacy for all of us who are left, all who knew her, and all who are and will be descended from you and her.  We all know that. We all heard it in the beautiful eulogies articulated by your family at her funeral yesterday.  It all resonated: her love of science, nature, her curiosity about the world reflected in her being such an avid reader, her modesty about her own accomplishments and her readiness always to appreciate the feats of others. And character and values were always number one. 
We know that Sandy wasn’t born into the kind of family dynamic that she would have chosen for herself and that she deserved. She longed for that nurturance. What did she do with that longing? She did not despair: she created the loving, family that would have inspired and supported her as a child. That shone through every word spoken by every family member and through the lives they are living.
Yes, her life has been a blessing! 
But here’s the part that can’t be said enough. It is the two of you as a unit that is the profound blessing that we were all privileged to share. 
You gave each other the care and nurturance that generated and regenerated the love that warmed us when we were near. You gave her the greatest gift of all when, in her waning years and months, you supported her and comforted her so that she could die peacefully at home and without the bodily intrusions that modern institutions impose.
Dan and I wish you comfort, which we know comes, at least in part, from knowing that you “did it right.”

We just heard the news this morning and feel so very sad.  Sandy was a dear dear friend to my mom since elementary school and a woman with always sage advice.  So many of my childhood memories include Sandy & Irv.  Sending lots of hugs to you Irv and to the whole Sherman family. xxxGail & Eric

I am so sorry I wasn't able to attend Sandra's funeral.  However, so grateful I was able to view it via livestream.  
Sandra wasn't only my friend since first grade...she was my sister. cliche? whatever, it's true.  When I look back on our 79 year friendship I can tell you there was never a time we were not in touch. Needless to say I will miss her so much.  She was my rock, my confidant, my everything.  
May she Rest In Peace forever. 

May the Omnipresent One comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

What a beautiful service for such a beautiful woman. Sandy was a special person which we consider ourselves privlidged to know. Please always remember how lucky each of you were to have such a wonderful spouse, parent, grandparent and great grandparent in your lives. I write this with a very personal feeling for Irv and Sandy.  I thought all of the eulogies were beautiful and absolutely true with respect to who Sandy was. Barbara and I were close friends and I am still a close friend of Irv and shared many many years, beautiful years, together. I also must say that probably Sandy and Barbara, my wife, were the closest of friends, perhaps the best of friends and certainly the friend that Sandy could and did speak about anything. I extend my condolences and best wishes to the entire family and fully agree how lucky all of you have been to have her in your life.

Aunt Sandy was to me the embodiment of grace, beauty, light, and quiet strength. As a little girl, at many family reunions, you couldn’t help but look for Aunt Sandy.  She just always made you feel important and loved. Her memory will forever live on. ❤️Love, and miss you all, -Marni Altaker-Mount

So sorry for your loss. Sandy was one of the sweetest, kindest most intelligent person I knew. She was so loving and was always talking about her children, David and Donna. I have very fond memories of being with her and Irving in Fl. She will be missed by all who knew her. Love, Linda & Marty

Sandy was one of the first wives to be  I met of my husband's high school friends in 1954 and we remained fast friends ever since.  We attended each other's celebrations (weddings, births, bat and bar mitzvahs, etc.  We  visited with each other really often and I will miss her so much. Aunt Sandy was a wonderful Aunt. I loved being with her. Family get togethers and the greatest of sleepovers with David and Donna. Playing in the backyard of their home before Essex Court. Little kids. Aunt Sandy and Uncle Irv put up with me!
Uncle Irv use to say......  Joyce, you’re so shy and quiet! 
Aunt Sandra was chill.  Mellow. Always smiling. And CLEANING.  OMG. But I was used to it. I grew up with Claire Shaiman. HA! 
I will never forget her grace poise and ladylike manners. Devoted to my cousins and Uncle Irv.  Last time I saw her was at Lauren’s wedding.  We sat next to one another talking non stop.
