Roy was born in 1937 in New York City to Louis and Eva. He grew up in the Bronx with his parents and older brother, Herb. He was a graduate of Cheshire Academy and got his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from New York University.
Roy’s love of travel led him to a cruise where he met the love of his life, Ethel. They married in 1962 and settled in the Bronx where they gave birth to their daughter, Lori. Soon after, they crossed the river and moved to Elizabeth, NJ where they completed their family with their second daughter Abby.
Roy and Ethel then chose to move their family to Livingston, NJ where he also opened his accounting practice. Roy was loved by his clients not only for his accounting ability, but for his gift for telling jokes and stories. However, one of his best qualities was his ability to connect and show his compassion for his clients who often became friends. Roy was also active in Temple Beth Shalom by serving on their Board as the Treasurer.
While business was important to him, his pride and joy was his family, and he instilled this value in his children and grandchildren. Roy was thrilled when his daughters each married and he got the two sons that he never had. Roy treated Bob and Joel as his own. Once Roy became a grandfather, he could be found at dance recitals and on the fields cheering them on. It was important for he and Ethel to take each of their grandchildren on a special trip of their choosing to spend special time and provide memories to last a lifetime. There were numerous family trips and family dinners. He would travel anywhere for a great meal.
Roy was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Ethel, his children, Lori and Bob Kaufman and Abby and Joel Goldberg. His grandchildren, Samantha and Andy Rosenkranz, Alex and Marissa Kaufman, Seth Goldberg and his fiancé Rachel Hein and Howard Goldberg. His great grandson, Evan Rosenkranz.
Roy was a true “mensch” and will be missed by all who knew him.
