A Lifelong resident of Essex County, Mitzi rose from a Medical Technologist at Irvington General Hospital to managing the laboratories at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange and teaching Medical Technologist students.
Mitzi was a sweet matriarch with a wicked sense of humor and an inner toughness to keep her extended family in line. A Renaissance woman, she was interested in literature, birding, science and her family. She was a member of the American Association of University Women’s Scholarship Committee, the Livingston Library Book Club, and received the 1976 NJ Society of Medical Technologists “Med Tech of the Year” award. A 1942 graduate of Weequahic High School, she earned her B.S in Medical Technology at New York University in 1947.
The matriarch of four generations, Mitzi was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Joe and her son Richard. She is survived by her favorite son Neal and his spouse, Sue Heiss, her favorite granddaughter and best friend, Heather Amendolara and her husband Peter, and her daughter-in law Dennise Feier. Also surviving are her grandsons, Mark Feier and Michael Feier, and great-grandchildren Ruby and Dexter Amendolara and Hannah Perkins.
