Joan was the loving and proud mother of Nancy Mehaffey (Tim), Bob (Lynn), Mary Ford (Jack), Chris, and Barbara McEvoy (Pat). She enjoyed her 8 grandchildren, Sean Mehaffey, Matthew Oelz, Kelly Mehaffey Lloyd, Corey Ford, Jacqueline Ford Solt, Ryan Oelz, John McEvoy, Brian McEvoy and also her 5 great grandchildren.
Joan was predeceased by her two Bobs: husband, Robert J. Oelz, Sr. and her son, Robert J. Oelz, Jr.
A lifetime NJ resident, Joan was born and raised in Maplewood. She spent the last 57 years in Livingston where she raised her family.
Joan was graduated from Packard Junior College in New York City.
Joan worked for 25 years at Seton Hall University where she was an Administrative Assistant to the V.P. of University Affairs. Due to her association - all five children graduated from SHU.
She was a member of Livingston Women's Club. She was a former Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer at St. Barnabas Pastoral Care.
Joan loved spending time with family, especially family vacations at the Jersey shore and her annual birthday parties with everyone. Special times were sitting on the beach for a "five o'clock" cocktail. She was an exceptional duplicate bridge player and also enjoyed any card games often with her many friends at The Enclave.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Joan at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on Friday, December 27th from 4-8 p.m. A Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 28th in St. Philomena's Church, Livingston. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, 1137 N Broad St, Hillside, NJ, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
