Liz was born on July 8, 1936, in Jersey City, NJ, and was the second of three children of Meyer and Paula Segal. She was raised in South Orange, NJ. After graduating from Columbia High School in 1954, she went on to study languages at Connecticut College. Shortly thereafter, Liz met her future husband Myles on a blind date. They wed in 1958, raised their three sons in South Orange, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She loved being a mother and found time to become a young entrepreneur by creating and operating a successful estate sale business for more than 30 years. Everyone who knew Liz found her to be friendly, outgoing, and creative, and she expressed her creative side by helping to establish a youth school for performing arts which continues to thrive today. Liz enjoyed playing cards, tennis, and singing in the temple choir, but she was truly happiest being at home with family and friends. She was a devoted and adoring wife, mother, and grandmother to her eight grandchildren.
Elisabeth was predeceased by her sister, Jean Fain (Barnett Fain). She is survived by her husband Myles; her brother Richard Segal; three sons, Mark (Christie), Rob (Rebecca), and John (Jill); eight grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan Scammell), Michael, Juliet, Alex, Will, Augie, Jennifer, and Matt.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 5, at 3pm at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Funeral Chapel at 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ. Shiva will be held on Sunday and Monday evenings from 5pm - 9pm at the home of John and Jill Adelman.
Contributions in memory of Liz may be made to Temple B’nai Jeshurun or to Hospice of New Jersey.
