I know there are no words that can heal the broken hearts of the Kimowitz family so I will not try.  As a long time employee of Dr. Hal Kimowitz I know how warm, loving, and caring your family is and that all of you embracing each other is what will help you get through each day.  My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to you all.

        I distinctly remember the day in college when Dave let me copy his extensive, pirated iTunes music collection. I remember thinking how can 1 person like all these bands? How can someone who loves so much of my favorite music also be listening to so much music that is terrible? 
         To be honest, many years later I still don't have a complete handle on Dave's extensive music 'guest list.' But, I am reminded of another college moment with a philosophy professor who suggested to us critical students that instead of merely finding what was wrong with the text, we try to find something right. 
       I have come to know Dave much better than I did since he first gave me his music folder. Dave didn't love all this music equally. He loved music, and so he tried to find value in as much of it as possible.  he understood that the love of music was about inclusivity not exclusivity. 
        Of course, Dave's approach to music was simply his approach to life. He had so many friends, hobbies, interests, because he found virtue before finding fault. Most people, at best, can achieve this outlook maybe with a lot of self-reflection and discipline. But, Dave was just made this way. We were lucky to have him.

May the love , devotion and bond of  your adoring family help you through this most difficult time in your lives....We can only hope the  special memories of David’s life will guide you all during the healing process.  A beautiful person, inside and out , has touched everyone’s heart  with the honor of knowing him.

Because your family is so caring, we certainly know that you, Laura, will NEVER be alone and will always have someone walking by your side.   There are so many stars in the sky but know that the brightest one of all is your David who will always be there - in spirit - watching over all of you.

My last memory of seeing David brings me smiles and warms my heart. We were recently at Adath Shalom, our parent’s synagogue with my parents and older daughter to listen to an Israeli band from NYC  play. David was sitting with his children jamming to the beat, a big smile on his face, his arms around his kids, Geri, Hal,Adam, Mara, Stef and Richard were all there with their kids too. I was with my parents Elaine and Elliott and older daughter Mira. Josh was home my youngest Dina was napping. The support, friendship, welcome and warmth we always receive from the Kimowitz family is never ending! They bring out the best in all of us. The love David had for his children and his wife Laura couldn’t go unnoticed- as the same with all the brothers.  They’re a model family.  There are no words or explanation for David being taken from all of us. It’s truly heart breaking. I appreciate the light and humor at the funeral as David wouldn’t want us to live in sorrow and would want us to remember him and live on with his memory. Sending our love to the Kimowitz family. We are always here for you anytime any day.

Words can't express the deep sadness and sorrow I felt hearing the tragic news. My memories of David and the entire Kimowitz family at Lake Owego Camp are filled with positive and happy thoughts. David's enduring smile and optimism made camp a specialplace for everyone in his bunk and in fact, the entire camp. My condolescences to all the family.

We met at Adath Shalom 30 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child. I remember looking at your family adoringly and hoping that one day G-d would bless me with 3 delicious peanuts like yours. I also marveled at the grace and generosity that the two of you brought to those lucky enough to meet you. 

We spent a holiday or two with you, as you warmly welcomed us to the community.  And, Jeri, I have a picture of you at our apartment holding my beautiful Marissa a week after she was born. It truly seems like yesterday. 

The loss of a child, in any way it arrives, is egregious and paralyzing.  May the two of you lean on your beautiful family and community, drawing strength from the light that David clearly shed on this world, albeit for all too short a time.

Dave and I spoke after he met his now wife, and he met her playing ping pong and knew she was the one. He told me he was bringing her on date two to play ping pong and we talked about him practicing so he wouldn’t look silly.  He was so happy about it all. 

On another occasion Dave, Jason Marcus(my cousin) and I and some others went to Montreal and Dave gave us a great tour of corned beef in Montreal.  I have a few more, from drinks at The Angel’s Corner in Greenwich Village to many others ....I truly enjoyed my time with Dave. I will work to keep his memory alive with the great stories. Love. 

Hal you may remember my family, especially my parents, Daisy and Al Blafer. I believe our mothers were cousins. I remember your parents Adele and Abe fondly and I remember times spent as children with you and your sister. I, like so many whose lives touched yours, am sending love to you, your wife and David's family during this unspeakable loss.  Everything I've read about David speaks to the warm, loving, caring, life-affirming qualities that reflect the family I knew growing up. I only hope all of you who suffer so profoundly at this time will find strength to honor the life that David lived.

I am out of the country until early next week and was shocked to read about David’s death.  My family and I have known his dad and mom for decades.  It’s hard to think of more wonderful people than the Kimowitz’s.  My heart goes out to them during this terrible time. I wish I were home to attend the funeral, but I shall make contact upon my return. 

We have such fond memories of all three Kimowitz  boys through the years.  David stood out as such a warm, sensitive sweet young man with a smile that would light up the room.   Our hearts go out to all of you and know that David will live on with  cherished memories,  within all of those people whom he has touched.

While Dave and I weren't that close, our parents were and still are.  When we were really young, Dave was able to tell my identical twin sister and I apart, even when his parents could not.  He simply said, "Melissa, she's the fat one." We were probably three years old.  I'm sure he said this with the amazing Dave Kimowitz smile we all knew and in the spirit of helping those who struggled to tell us apart.   We attended the same Hebrew School and Kadima events. I will always remember him singing and playing on his guitar, laughing, dancing with his friends, talking to everyone and helping all feel welcomed,  and always, with the Dave Kimowitz smile we all knew and loved.   
The world is missing a bright smile.

We did not personally know each other but you were one of my brothers closest  friends. Over the years he shared some funny stories about you. I just want to send my sympathy as well as my family's   to your wife, children, parents, brothers, and friends. I know my brother considers you family and that is all I needed to know to realize that you were a great guy. I have read a lot about you the past few days and wish we did get to meet. I know Jason will think about you all the time and am sure I will as well.  Dave, you'll be missed. 

David. Dave. Dumpling.  You were literally one of the kindest, funniest, greatest human beings I have ever known.  You have provided me and the boys with some of the best memories a person could ever ask for, which I will cherish until my dying day. 

We often hear about the person that "lit up the room" with their personality the moment they entered. Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, this was that guy. It was damn near impossible to be in a bad mood around Dave. He would change your bad mood immediately. Whether you wanted him to or not. He was just that guy. That pure. That full of life. 

Nothing is right or just about what happened to you. Nothing. But we refuse to dwell on the bad, when you, our dear Dumpling, provided SO much good. I don't think you even realized how many times you helped "right this ship" over the years. Thank you. For everything. 

I miss you, Dave. I miss everything about you. And I'm sorry I was never as good a friend to you, as you were to me. Forgive me. I love you, buddy. Always.

It was a joy and privilege to teach David (and Adam and Richard). So funny and full of life, yet with strong values and great spiritual depth.  I grieve with you all. You are in my prayers.

“Kimowitz”...that’s  what we affectionately called you at NA (Newark Academy). You’re smile was always warm and soft. I have many memories of you in class, in the hallways and outside of school...some best not to be shared here :) But, always in good fun...

You also really loved my Mom, “ Doctora” and she loved you.

 We’ve lost touch since college, so I won’t pretend to know you better then some. But I will say, you were good, you were kind and you were HILARIOUS. We had many laughs. As  numerous  have said, you were one of the good ones, all the way to your core.

It’s almost 4 am in Spain, where I currently am. I won’t be able to catch a flight back home (NJ) to pay my respects to you and your loved ones. But, if  I could’ve, I would’ve. 

My heart hurts for your family...you’re Mom would make these Jewish baked  goods for the International Fair and she would make us (really my Mom) a secret stash...and your brother...I did not know him, but  I knew from a distance that he loved you so very much. So very much...
 
I ask myself, “ How could he be gone? His family loved him too much. His  friends loved him too much,” My heart breaks for all those who are close and dear to you. Your wife and kids, whom I don’t know...Jesus, just sheer devastation. 

Senseless violence. It’s no fair to any of them. 

You’re bright spirit will live on. After many, many tears...

Great Memories with David.

 Hanging out with my brother Vlad, Cris Italia and David backstage in Los Angeles we always had a laugh, a joke and great stories. 

He loved his wife, kids and he loved working with people.

Ms. Jacoby and I had the honor of teaching David in high school.  All of our contact with David, and his entire family, was filled with smiles and joy.  Obviously, David continued to live his life through the lens of love and kindness.  We send our deep felt condolences to everyone involved in David's life.  We cannot understand why terrible things happen, but we do know that David lived a purposeful, meaningful and loving life.  To all, we send our love.  He will be truly missed.
