Cathy Silverman (Feierman), 64, of Roseland died on February 4, 2020. She was born in Allentown, PA and raised her family in North Caldwell and Roseland, NJ. She graduated from Allentown High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Delaware and an MSW from New York University.
Cathy served as Executive Director of the National Council of Jewish Women, Essex Division for more than 18 years. Her impact on NCJW/Essex was immense. Cathy vastly increased membership during her tenure. She was instrumental in developing many new and innovative programs such as the Back to School Store, Mitzvah-A-Minute and many, many more. She doubled the organization’s professional staff, tripled the budget and quadrupled it’s assets. Cathy dedicated her professional life to increasing opportunities and improving the lives of women, children and families regardless of religion, race or creed.
In addition to her professional achievements, Cathy was intimately involved in nurturing and enriching the lives of her children and grandchildren. She served as a championship soccer coach, nurse, chef, chauffer, and all-around inspiration to those that loved her and interacted with her. She seamlessly managed her professional and personal life.
Cathy and her husband, Lenny Dinnerstein, are members of Cedar Hill Country Club where she became an avid golfer. She and Lenny played with a variety of close friends almost every Sunday during golf season. Cathy continued to play, even with a medical pump strapped to her back, up until this past summer. Cathy was also a gifted tennis player.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Lenny Dinnerstein, her mother Doris Feierman, her brother Arthur Feierman, three sons, Jared Silverman (Paige), Evan Silverman (Erin) and Lyle Silverman (Jordana), one daughter, Cara Marcoux (Daniel), a step-daughter, Rebecca Bialick (Todd) and a step-son Andrew Dinnerstein and seven Grandchildren.
