Barry was raised in Maplewood NJ and attended Columbia High School before attending college in Boston. Afterwards, he enlisted in the US Army National Guard.
After the sudden death of his father, Barry became the owner of The Becker Motor Transportation Company. Barry continued to grow and transform the company to JED Trucking and Warehousing, a conglomerate of logistics companies operating throughout the Northeast.
He loved NJ summers and Florida winters. Barry was a 50 year member of Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, and member of Mirasol Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens Fl. Barry was also a 40 year member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston NJ. He was involved with the NJ Motor Truck Association and NJ Food Council.
Barry loved playing golf with friends everywhere he could all over the world. He loved traveling, listening to jazz, Entenmann’s donuts, cigars, scotch, and cars. His humor and friendship will be missed.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis, loving sons Jed Becker (Lisa), Todd Becker (Corinne), Drew Zimmerman (Michelle), and Eric Zimmerman (Kathryn), adoring grandfather of Adison and Jack Becker, Charly and Raquel Becker, Sydney and Joel Zimmerman, Abigail and Elizabeth Zimmerman, and the mother of his children, Leslie Kowal.
He is also survived by precious canine companions Becky and Brandy Becker who have been with him for over a decade.
