Wayne Douglas Berry, 87, of Little Rock, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was born February 8, 1927, in Paris, Tennessee to Earl and Mattie Berry. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rodney Berry, brothers, Kenneth Berry and Donald Berry, and sister, Charlotte Thompson.
He attended Little Rock Central High School and played on the Championship Football Team in 1942-43, and 44. He worked for Exxon Mobil for 36 ½ years and was a devoted member of Oak Park Baptist Church. He was a member of Scimitar Temple with Shriners and a 33rd degree Mason of Dermott, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jeanie Fancher Berry; son, Wayne D. “Cubby” Berry, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Christy Berry; two great-grandchildren, Carrie Smurl and Graham Smurl; and sister-in-law, Gloria Berry.
He was known for his smile, laughter and brightening up the room.
Visitation will be Monday, May 5, at Noon with the service to follow at 1:30 p.m., at Oak Park Baptist Church, 8200 Flintridge Road, Little Rock, AR 72210, Bro. Jeff Herring officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Park Baptist Church.
