Velma Lucille brown, age 94, passed away on Thursday April 29, 2021. She was born in Tichnor, Arkansas on January 30, 1927 to John Allen Corbitt and Ethel Bitely Corbitt. She married Callaway Lynn Brown (Buddy) on January 24, 1945. They were married 41 years before his passing on August 13, 1987.
She retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after 30 years of service as a writer / editor in the planning division. While there, she was recognized as Federal Employee of the year for Arkansas in 1979. In 1989, she was woman of the year for the Little Rock District Corpe of Engineers.
She received both her bachelor and master’s degree at UALR. She was a member of Word Aflame Church in Little Rock, followed by Apostolic Tabernacle in Hot Springs.
She was preceded in death by brothers; Orville Corbitt and Roger Corbitt, sisters; Ina Marie Hampton, Mildred Corbitt Laverne Williams, Jeanette Joseph and son-in-law; Steve Lovett.
Survivors are her three children; Sharon Lovett, Sandra Brown (David Harshfield) of Fayetteville, and Joe Brown of Star City. Grandchildren; Amanda Evans of Poyen, Jeremy Brown of Star City and Lindsey Lovett of Fayetteville. She is also survived by Brothers Reggie Corbitt and Jeff Corbitt.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 5, 2021 starting at 11am at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home in Little Rock. Visitation will begin at 10am, 1 hour prior to the service.
A special thank you to all her nieces and nephews who assisted with her trip to her heavenly home. She loved you dearly.
