Mary Adney

December 16, 1927, Little Rock, AR - July 6, 2022, Little Rock, AR

Preceded by parents Walter Shock and Lena Fuchs Shock, brothers Walter and Clarence, sister Margaret, husband GB Adney, Jr, sons Gabe Adney, John Adney, and David Adney. Survived by daughters Donna Jackson, Ruth Adney (Gary Eklund), grandchildren Sarah Metzger (Michael), Jonathan Jackson (Mary), Michael Adney, and Stephen Adney (Lily), five great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.

Depending on who you asked, she was known as Mary, Maw, Mom, Aunt Mary, Momma, Memaw, and Mimi. Unofficially, she could also have been called caregiver, saint, glue, and perhaps most importantly home cooking extraordinaire. You might have seen a fight over her fried okra at weekly Sunday dinners, if she would have ever allowed such a thing. She perfected 'muscles' (fried eggplant of a special variety grown right out of GB's garden), all the greens, vegetable soup, and pecan pie that would put any bakery to shame. Nothing GB grew went to waste in her kitchen. Mary loved half beers, Jesus, her dogs, and her family, though possibly not in that order, depending on the day and what antics her boys were engaged in. She said she didn't think she could love anything more than her own kids…until her grandchildren came along. Then she said she didn't think she could love anything more than her grandkids, then her great grandchildren came along. She always had room for more love…

A devout Catholic, she took kindness to a new level…from always listening with a quiet but caring smile to taking in numerous friends of her kids to caring for an elderly neighbor and friend (Ms. Winnie!) for years, even taking her into her own home and seeing her through her twilight. You never heard her utter an ugly word about anyone, no matter how warranted (or accurate) it might have been. She was a study in loyalty, devotion, selflessness, and kindness for 94 years until her earthly body gave way so her eternal life could finally begin. And she is rejoicing and her beautiful laugh is filling the halls once again.

Visitation will be at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home on July 18th at 6:00 p.m., followed by Rosary at 7:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church on July 19th at 9:30 a.m., followed by graveside service at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
