June Hoes Williams, 79, died at her home on May 13, 2021. She was born on July 21, 1941, to the late William H. and Helon B. Williams. After the death of her parents, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, E. Grainger and Frances B. Williams.
June truly loved growing up at Tall Timber Jersey Farm which she called home until it was sold in 1962. She attended Little Rock Public Schools from kindergarten through her junior year at Little Rock Central High School. She lived in Gastonia, NC for her senior year and graduated from Ashley High School there. June attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR, and took graduate courses at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. She moved to Indian Harbor Beach, FL and taught at the Indialantic Elementary School for two years. After returning to Little Rock, she taught at Meadowcliff and Granite Mountain elementary schools for 28 years.
June was creative, inquisitive, intelligent, fun, witty and, on occasion, opinionated. She loved photography and traveling, all types of music, sewing and knitting, reading, gourmet cooking and a wide variety of outdoor activities. June shared her love of adventure with family and friends; one highlight was inviting various family members to spend a different week with her on Cape Cod, MA. in celebration of her 40th birthday.
June was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, where she served as a choir and handbell member, an elder and a SPY (Second Presbyterian Youth) advisor. She was a board member at Ferncliff, a Presbyterian Camp & Conference Center established by her parents in the 1930’s. She also enjoyed participating in operas at the Wildwood Park for the Arts and attending the Little Rock Wind Symphony events of which she also served as a member of the Board.
She touched many lives with her generous support of numerous nonprofits in our community. June was especially passionate about supporting the arts and programs that serve children and students.
June received companionship and compassionate care from Becca Tucker, Rosemary Beavers, Diane Beavers, Felicia Robinson, Angel Parks, and Lakeisha Coakley for 16 years. The family also appreciates care provided in recent months from Arkansas Hospice, Amber Sanders, and SaBreona Wallace.
