Sandra Jean Severson Freeland passed away December 2, 2023, at her home in Longs, South Carolina, at the age of 81. She was the daughter of Gilmore and Mabel Severson. Sandra brought joy to her family and friends with music, laughter, and lots of hugs. You could always find her in a crowd, her laugh rose above the din.
Sandra loved music. She sang while attending school in Climax, MN and enjoyed singing and playing piano accompanied by her father’s fiddle. She taught her daughters how to harmonize, and would accompany them while singing in church, for weddings, and other events. She loved books, and often sneaked away to a quiet place to read uninterrupted.
While her daughters were in school, Sandra was a homemaker most of the time, supplementing the family income on occasion by driving a potato truck during harvest season. Once her kids were out of the house, she worked in Grand Forks, ND, where she later opened a bookkeeping business. She and Richard relocated to Longs, South Carolina, in 2000 for its sunshine and golf, which they both loved.
She had a quick, clever, sense of humor, and smiled and laughed often. She was small but fearless.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Richard, who passed away just two short weeks ago on November 17. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Wendlen Severson. She is survived by her daughters, Bethany Freeland of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Paige Freeland of Northville Michigan; and granddaughter Lauren Ephriam of Seattle Washington.
