Jesse Medlock, a beloved husband, father, coach, and community leader, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born into the caring family of John Daniel and Melva Medlock, Jesse was the cherished brother of Bonnie Willbanks, Marlyn Schults, Luzanne Griffith, and Johnny Medlock, all of whom preceded him in passing.
Jesse is survived by his devoted wife, Kirsten Medlock; his children, Baron Medlock and Zane Medlock; he was preceded in death by his son, Ben Medlock. His life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and dedication to others.
Jesse earned his bachelor’s degree from Erskine College and a master’s degree from Western Carolina University. His lifelong commitment to education and athletics began at Gary Court-Owens High School (1962-1972), where he worked as a teacher and coach. During his tenure, he guided the girls’ basketball team to a state championship, marking the beginning of an illustrious coaching career.
In 1973, Jesse joined North Myrtle Beach High School, serving as a teacher, coach, and athletic director until 1984. Under his leadership, the boys’ track team and the girls’ tennis team each secured state championships, cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in high school athletics.
Jesse’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner of the North Myrtle Beach Flea Market in 1984. A man dedicated to his community, he also served on the board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters and was an active member of the Optimist Club.
A lover of the outdoors, Jesse’s hobbies included hunting, boating, and his lifelong passion for tennis. He was especially fond of turkey hunting and shared his love of nature with those around him. Jesse’s unwavering devotion to Clemson University football was a defining part of his personality, as he never missed a game, proudly sporting him Clemson attire.
Jesse’s life was marked by a deep compassion for others. He and Kirsten opened their hearts and home to many children in need, embodying the spirit of unconditional generosity. His quick wit, sense of humor, and magnetic personality made him the life of every gathering.
Jesse will be remembered as a man who touched countless lives with his warmth, kindness, and commitment to helping others. His legacy lives on in the memories of his family, friends, and the many students and athletes who were inspired by his guidance. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him
