James William Cox, Jr. "Pedro", 61, of Little River, SC passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at home with his loving wife Lucinda by his side. Born in Greer, SC, James was the son of James W. Cox, Sr. and Elsie Blanton Cox. His paternal grandparents, William Roscoe and Catherine Snow Cox and maternal grandparents, Charlie and Thelma Dellinger Teague precede him in death.
While in high school at James F. Byrnes in Duncan, SC., James was President of the Future Farmers of America where he won numerous awards for prize winning cattle. He also enjoyed dirt track racing in Gaffney as well as Woodruff, SC. James had a love for farming beginning as early as five years old when he would farm cotton and soybeans with his father and grandfather. He attended Coastal Carolina University where he graduated with honors in 1990 with a BA in business.
For 38 years, James was the owner and operator of Jimmy Cox Farms Peaches where he was well known and respected. He loved being on the tractor at the farm and was passionate about growing peaches. James enjoyed his time outdoors fishing and camping. In 1991, he obtained his Captain's License through the US Coast Guard.
Surviving in addition to his parents is his devoted wife, Lucinda and daughter, Emily Cox Collins (husband, Blake); grandson, Bryce Collins; brother, Dr. William R. Cox "Billy" (wife, Martha-Murray); niece Blanton-Harris Cox; nephew, Ross Cox; mother-in-law, Margie Roark and several aunts, uncles and cousins. James had a special love and fondness for his four-legged companions, Cooper, Katie, Tommy, Socks and Midnight.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory.
Flowers are welcomed or donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Research Hospital.
