David Stanley Westover, 79, of Longs, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dave was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, on October 25, 1943. He is survived by M. Patricia Westover, his beloved wife of 59 years; his sister, Twila Gearhart; and three children, Rob (wife, Gina), David Jr. (wife, Laura) and Kim Aiello (husband, Dan). He was preceded in death by brothers: George, Karl and Walter Westover, and sisters: Willa Connor, Joyce Dunkle, and Trella Thompson.
He was a cherished “Pappy” to eleven grandchildren: Lauren and Robby Westover, David and Blake Yale, Ally and Jessie Westover, Abby and Wyatt Westover, Hunter Russell, Skyler Graves and Anna Aiello.
Dave graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1961. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 to include deployed service in the Philippines and Vietnam. Upon his return from the military, he was employed by Delta Airlines and then Allensville Planing Mill (APM) where he worked in management and sales. He retired from APM in 2007 and later moved to the North Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina.
A dedicated husband, grandfather and devoted friend to those who knew him, Dave positively impacted everyone he interacted with. He lived by the motto, “Be the best you can be,” and inspired his family to live by that philosophy as well. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, playing golf, traveling and supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dave will be remembered for providing sound advice, being a great listener and living by the “Golden Rule.” He will be dearly missed, but there is peace in knowing he is at home in Heaven with Jesus.
The family will hold a graveside memorial with military honors at Florence National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina, at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022. In Dave’s honor, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association.
